Boonie: Boonie (or brimmed hat) is a hat model for military use, designed after WWII. The brim of the hat provides shelter from the sun and rain and as a result the hat is also practical for example when boating or on the shooting range. In the forest it also somewhat protects against branches. When it comes to the design of the hat, it breaks up the outlines of the natural human figure, but only slightly when compared to a field cap. Woven loops above the brim have been specifically designed for adding leaves and branches. The hat is as such well suited to as the base for a ghillie hat! Boonies are almost always provided with a drawstring. Mil-Tec’s iteration is much like the traditional US style boonie: mesh covered cooling holes on sides, loops for adding camouflage materials, fastening cord (if you want to look cool, wear this behind your neck) and stiffened brim. Material: 100% cotton. Fabric also has ripstop grid, but unlike usual grid is not nylon but cotton. The most common ways to wear a Boonie hat aka the Jungle hat: “the GI” the hat on head, optional neckband under the chin or behind the neck with style. “the Cowboy/Indiana Jones” the hat on head, both sides of the brim lifted and secured with the neckband. “the Robin Hood” the hat on head, one side of the brim lifted and secured with the neckband. “the Captain Hook” the hat on head, the brim lifted at the front. “the Combat Signaller” hat missing.
